Peaches Builds Focused Heel, Rear-End Awareness, and Position Work
Peaches is still early in her board and train program, but she is already starting to build some really useful obedience foundations.
In this session, we worked on luring, focused heel mechanics, rear-end awareness, and position work using a position box.
The goal right now is not perfection. We are building clean mechanics, engagement, and body awareness so we have a stronger foundation to progress from later.
Starting With Engagement and Luring
We opened the session with some basic luring work.
Before asking for more technical obedience, we want to make sure Peaches is actively following the lure and staying engaged with the handler.
This gives us a simple way to guide her into the positions and movement patterns we want without adding unnecessary confusion.
Once Peaches was moving well with the lure, we started shaping her focused heel.
Building a Cleaner Focused Heel
Peaches is already beginning to show a pretty good heel position.
Right now, we are paying attention to both her body placement and the head position we want her to maintain while working from the heel side.
At this stage, the goal is simply to create a clear picture of where we want her.
As she becomes more consistent, we can gradually start asking for more precision, duration, and movement.
Developing Rear-End Awareness
We also added spins into the session to help Peaches develop better rear-end awareness.
Body awareness is an important part of more technical obedience because it teaches the dog how to move different parts of the body with more control.
Instead of simply following the front end, we want Peaches to become more aware of where her rear feet are and how to move them intentionally.
That foundation can become useful later for cleaner turns, position changes, heel work, and more advanced obedience exercises.
Using the Position Box
After the movement and heel work, we moved over to the position box.
The position box gives us a more defined area to begin shaping Peaches’ sit, down, and stand.
By limiting unnecessary movement, we can make the mechanics of each position clearer and help her understand exactly where we want her body.
This allows us to focus on consistency before adding more difficulty.
Building the Foundation Before Adding Complexity
Peaches will eventually be working toward more advanced obedience, so these early sessions matter.
The stronger her understanding of engagement, luring, body awareness, and basic positions becomes, the easier it will be to layer more advanced work on top of it.
We are taking the time to make sure the foundation is clean rather than rushing toward the finished behavior.
A Solid Session for Miss Peach
Peaches had a really solid session.
She stayed engaged, worked well through the luring, started showing a nice focused heel picture, and handled the position-box work well.
We are excited to keep building her obedience one layer at a time and see how far we can progress her throughout her board and train.
