Meet Peaches: Starting Her Board and Train Journey at Primal Canine
We’re excited to introduce Peaches, one of our newest board and train dogs at Primal Canine.
Peaches will be with us for the next few weeks, and during that time we’ll be working on a mix of general pet obedience, advanced obedience foundations, engagement, and the beginning stages of bite work.
She has a lot ahead of her, and she should be a really fun dog to follow throughout the process.
Building a Strong Obedience Foundation
One of the biggest priorities with Peaches is laying a strong foundation for more advanced obedience later on.
Before asking for complex behaviors, duration, distance, or higher levels of precision, we want to make sure the basics are clear.
That means working on things like:
Engagement with the handler
Clear communication
Position work
Recall
Leash manners
Sit, down, and stand
Impulse control
Reliability around distractions
The stronger those fundamentals become, the easier it is to build more advanced obedience on top of them.
General Pet Obedience Still Matters
Even though Peaches will eventually be working toward more advanced training, general pet-level obedience is still an important part of the program.
Advanced work does not replace the need for a dog to be easy to live with.
We still want Peaches to understand how to move through everyday life calmly, respond to commands, stay engaged around distractions, and communicate clearly with her handler.
That balance between advanced training and practical obedience is something we focus on heavily at Primal Canine.
Starting Bite Work
Peaches will also be introduced to bite work during her stay.
At the beginning, this is not about rushing into difficult exercises.
The early stages are about evaluating her natural behavior, building confidence, creating engagement with the equipment, and making sure the work stays fun and productive.
Just like obedience, bite work is built in layers.
By taking the time to develop those early pieces correctly, we can create a stronger foundation for whatever direction her working training eventually takes.
Why Foundation Work Is So Important
It can be easy to focus on the flashy parts of advanced dog training, but the foundation is what makes everything else possible.
A dog that understands how to learn, engage, recover from mistakes, and stay connected to the handler is much easier to progress.
That is why Peaches’ first phase will be less about showing off advanced behaviors and more about building the pieces that allow those behaviors to happen later.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be documenting her progression through obedience, engagement work, advanced foundations, and bite work so you can see how each piece develops over time.
